On June 30, 2019, we got the unthinkable news that Gary Walton was killed in a motorcycle accident. There are no words for how much we love Gary and how devastated we are at losing him. He has been far more than a friend or a brother to us for most of our lives.
He kept us constantly laughing on and off stage. You never knew what he was going to do or say next to bring a little fun and uplift to any situation. His jokes and cowboy poems were classics. Just edgy enough to make people squirm a bit, but always so danged funny that you couldn't wait to hear what he was going to say next. Most of all, he was constantly making sure people in need were taken care of.
Gary will be missed deeply and remembered constantly. How do you have the Beatles without John, Paul, George or Ringo? How do you have the Highway Men without Waylon, Willie, or Johnny Cash? That’s how we feel about Gary. Not sure what or how we’d ever sing again without his signature high tenor but most of all without his huge and unstoppable spirit and personality. Fortunately, we've got some old audio and video from past shows. That is a great way to catch and keep some of the spark of Gary Walton. July 2019.
